Transmission curves and effective refraction indices of MKO near infrared consortium filters at cryogenic temperatures

چکیده
We report transmission measurements at cryogenic temperatures for 4 broad-band filters of the Mauna Kea Observatories (MKO) near-infrared filter set and 5 narrow-band filters. The spectral scans were collected using the multi-mode IR instrument of the TNG telescope (NICS) in which these filters are permanently mounted and commonly used for astronomical observations. We determined the transmission curves at a temperature of 78 K and found no significant red–leak up to 2.6 μm, the data are available in electronic form on the TNG web page. We also estimated the variation of the wavelength response with the incidence angle and found it compatible with an effective refractive index of '2 (see Eq. 1). A&A manuscript no. The Mauna Kea Observatories Near-Infrared Filter Set. I. Defining Optimal 1–5 Micron Bandpasses
A new Mauna Kea Observatories near-infrared (MKO-NIR) filter set is described, including techniques and considerations given to designing a new set of bandpasses that are useful at both midand highaltitude sites. These filters offer improved photometric linearity and in many cases reduced background, as well as preserving good throughput within the JHKLM atmospheric windows. MKO-NIR filters hav...
متن کاملThe Cryogenic Refractive Indices of S-ftm16, a Unique Optical Glass for Near-infrared Instruments
The Ohara glass S-FTM16 is of considerable interest for near-infrared optical designs because it transmits well through the K band and because negative S-FTM16 elements can be used to accurately achromatize positive calcium fluoride elements in refractive collimators and cameras. Glass manufacturers have sophisticated equipment to measure the refractive index at room temperature, but cannot typ...
متن کاملThe Mauna Kea Observatories Near-Infrared Filter Set. II. Specifications for a New JHKL M Filter Set for Infrared Astronomy
We present a description of a new 1–5 μm filter set similar to the long-used JHKLM filter set derived from that of Johnson. The new Mauna Kea Observatories Near-Infrared (MKO-NIR) filter set is designed to reduce background noise, improve photometric transformations from observatory to observatory, provide greater accuracy in extrapolating to zero air mass, and reduce the color dependence in th...
متن کاملNormal incidence filters using symmetry-protected modes in dielectric subwavelength gratings
We investigate narrowband transmission filters based on subwavelength-grating reflectors at normal incidence. Computational results show that the filtering is realized through symmetry-protected mode coupling. The guided mode resonances introduced by the slab layer allow flexible control of the filter frequencies. The quality factor of the filters could exceed 106. Dielectric gratings can be us...
متن کاملTemperature-dependent optical constants of water ice in the near infrared: new results and critical review of the available measurements.
The optical constants of water ice have been determined in the near infrared from 4000 to 7000 cm(-1). Polycrystalline ice films with thickness as great as ~1164 mum were formed by condensation of water vapor on a cold silicon substrate at temperatures of 166, 176, 186, and 196 K. The transmission of light through the ice films was measured during their growth from 0 to 1164 mum over the freque...
